Labor Day Weekend, Atlanta GA……..

A city where over 45,000+ fans come together for a traditional weekend of reunions, drinking, dressing up and just plain old fun.

What?? Do you think I’m talking about the start of College Foot Ball season?

NO!!!!

I’m talking about Dragon*Con!!!!

This year was the 25th anniversary of the premiere convention of the South East, and like always it didn’t fail to impress even this veteran of 7 Dragon*Cons!!!!

With a varied selection of guests from cast members of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Battlestar Galactica and The Guild to acting legends Martin Landau and Ernest Borgnine and almost everything and for that matter, everyone in between, in was a cornucopia of celebrities appearing this year.

Aside from the film and television celebrities at the show, Dragon*Con also had a pretty good turnout of comic book related artists and writers. Amongst those appearing were J.Scott Campbell artist of Danger Girl, Cat Staggs & comic book legend George Perez. Mr. Perez is a true gentleman and fan of the fans and I was honored to be able to get him to draw a sketch for me, albeit for a nominal price of course.

But it’s not a Dragon*Con without costumers. And boy were there costumers galore this year. The majority of the costumes this year to me seemed to be Steampunk related or Doctor Who related. Most importantly with Doctor Who there seemed to be a lot of River Songs and Amy Pond costumers. There were also a lot of TRON: LEGACY inspired costumers there including our own Samantha in her siren costume. And of course you have all the comic book costumers, some of whom were fantastic including someone who did a full scale MODOK costume!!!! Also don’t forget convention perennial costumers. Those include your Star Wars, Star Trek and Ghostbuster costumers there. Most of these costumers seem to come out at night and can usually be found hanging around the Marriott bar or the lower two levels of the Marriott.

I even saw a few people dressed like FLO from the Progressive Insurance commercials. As for costumes inspired by the blockbusters of 2011, I would say the most popular one was the USO girls outfit from Captain America: The First Avenger!!! Some were done really well, while others not so well. There were also a lot of Anime costumers and people dressed as characters that no one knew what they were supposed to be which got a lot of quizzical looks. But it’s not a Dragon*Con without girls dressing in as little as possible and of course this year didn’t disappoint.

But you are probably asking yourself, but what about panels? Did you go to any panels at Dragon*Con?

There are panels at Dragon*Con???? LMAO!!!

Unfortunately no I didn’t. But thank goodness for DCTV which had cctv feeds of panels in the hotel rooms. Of the panels I did which included the Carrie Fisher one and the BSG one they were very funny and candid.

Well that’s my write up of Dragon*Con. If you haven’t been to one or it’s been a while since you been there it’s definitely worth going to.
