NCIS starts off where last season left off. Action! Drama! Tension!

NCIS has now begun its 9th season and boy did it start off with a bang. Literally.

Secretary Jarvis (Sec Nav) assigned Tony to the investigation after a dead Navy Captain was found with an incision in his arm. After Ducky discovers security footage of EJ Barrett removing a microchip from the body of Special Agent Gayne Levin, suspicion falls on her. At the end of last season, we all suspected that the photo that Tony was given was of EJ. The Major Case Response Team begins to suspect EJ is the target of Tony's investigation, but EJ confides to Tony that Levin asked her to remove the microchip. We later learn the photo was of Cade. Tony is lured to a meeting with EJ and her buyer, revealed to be Barrett's other team member and the target of Tony's investigation, Special Agent Simon Cade. During the meeting, all three are shot. Cade is killed, Tony is knocked unconscious and Barrett is missing. As Tony recalls the meeting, he realizes they were set up by the shooter, the Office of Naval Intelligence's secret unit. It is they who want to sell the information on this microchip to the highest bidder of countries that are a threat to National Security. Oh the greed.

This set up everything perfectly for a jam packed season. We have at least a good story line going (corruption from within), Tony still denying his feelings for Ziva and vise versa (and congrats to Ziva for being done with her probation period!), and even a wedding in the Spring for Jimmy! We also know that Gibbs will be dealing with his feelings in the loss of Mike Franks, we will hopefully get a good McGee story line this season (maybe back with Abby??). Only time will tell.

NCIS drew in 20 million viewers. This is on par with their Season 8 viewers (Which averages 19.5 million for the season). Rest assured, NCIS is not going anywhere any time soon. They might be in their 9th season, but it was not until the 5th season when things really took off for NCIS. This season will also mark their 200th episode. Congratulations!

NCIS is on Tuesdays, at 8pm on CBS. You can catch NCIS LA at 9pm as well (which loses about 4-8 million of NCIS’s viewers).
