Nikita Cast NYCC

It was a weekend full of luck. (I managed to work my magic so much; John gave me a promotion to Senior Correspondent!)

This is going to be full of potential spoilers so do not read any further if you wish to not know of future plots!

John and I were very lucky to make it into the IGN Theater for the Nikita panel. I managed to get RIGHT UP FRONT with camera in hand (and cell phone) to snap a lot of great photos (Yes I was one of THOSE people from the press, who has to be all close to the stage, snapping photos with my annoying flash. Sorry. It’s my job as press to be annoying sometimes). Question time came and yours truly got to speak with the cast AND writer Albert Kim (Luck had it; I was the last person to ask a question! Yes!)

I asked Mr. Kim about the Percy storyline:

“So we have Percy in his little box. I’ve noticed he is acquiring items – television, newspaper, tea time, and now his clothes – obviously this is all for a reason, can you tease us a little as to why? Obviously we know he is going to escape, is this going to happen before or after the mid season break?”

Mr. Kim told us that yes; the items Percy is acquiring will be helpful to his escape as Percy does everything for a reason. As to the how, and when, Mr. Kim was silent. He did however hint that it will happen around or after the midseason break. Currently episode 11 is being written, and the midseason break should be around episode 11/12 (as this season is 23 episodes).

I also informed Shane and Maggie that they had a ratings boost on Friday for “Partners” (and if you saw the episode, you can see why! How amazing was THAT? The producers were right – there is definitely an ebb and flow relationship with Nikita and Alex) and Maggie seemed VERY excited. The ratings went from 1.6 million to 1.67 million. This could be due to the CW canceling H8er (um Hi, CW, can we please put Nikita on Wednesdays now?! Get it off Friday night! Is someone at the CW reading this?!)

We also learned that in Episode 6 coming up, Michael is going to screw up big time with Nikita. So while it has been great having them together, it seems they are going to have a cool down period. In addition, we are also going to meet Nikita’s father in Episode 6. Just as Michael and Nikita cool down it seems Nikita and Alex are going to heat back up.

So we have Owen working for Gogol (More like using Gogol). We have the head of Zetrov who just found out Alex is still alive and ordered Gogol to shoot her on sight. We also have Gogol wanting the black box from Nikita and Alex who wants the black box from Nikita but at the same time, Alex and Nikita both want Gogol out of the picture. Gogol is a threat to Nikita, and now Alex. Then enter Division, and they just want Alex to take back Zetrov so that they can have an interest there, and they also want to remain buddy buddy with Gogol, even though Gogol wants the black box (hey they want it too!) and this makes for one awesome plot. Obviously thanks to Mr. Kim’s birthday photo, we saw some Episode 10 spoilers on a whiteboard which tell us that Nikita learns Owen is working with Gogol. I wonder if this is going to be used to their advantage so that Alex can take back Zetrov? Or even use Owen to get inside of Gogol more? Or Nikita can finish taking down Division? Oh do the plot lines keep on turning! Now, we can’t forget that Mr. Kim also mentioned they liked killing people off Nikita. Oh for the female fans, please do not kill off Owen!

And to top it all off, Nikita still has to break Ryan out of prison (which is also coming up this season).

Phew. And this is only the first 10 episodes I have mentioned! WOW!

Judging by the crowd in the IGN theatre, and then the MASSIVE crowd at the DC booth for the Nikita signing, Nikita is being watched by a lot more than 1.6 million people. I was truly confused after NYCC about the ratings. You had ALL those people there and only 1.6 million are watching? Something’s off. Take a look at all the people!

Yes, I did manage to meet the cast at the signing (and thanked Albert for the Episode 10 spoilers! To which Maggie laughed), and for a person who never gets star struck, I was just star struck from Shane West. I guess a good looking guy like that from ones favorite TV show would make anyone speechless. Thankfully, I managed to secure a spot on line fairly close to the front, so I was guaranteed my signed poster, which I am currently searching for a frame. Hello new bedroom wall hanging! Maggie, Shane and Albert were all really great and friendly and really into promoting their show. I love how much energy they all seem to have about Nikita and how excited they all are about it. They are just about as excited as I am, and I am just a fan. (I might have a big mouth, but I was too shy to even really say Hi to Shane! I did say thank you for my poster though!)

If you are not watching Nikita yet, give it a chance. Season 1 is out on DVD. It’s hard to pick up on Nikita right now, as so much went on during season 1 you won’t be able to follow along. Yes the first 7 or 8 Episode of season 1 start slow and are similar, however, once the writers started getting feedback from the fans, things REALLY picked up and things became QUITE interesting. Grab the DVD and then catch up with Season 2 which you can purchase on iTunes for 1.99 each episode (or 3.99 for HD). Season 2 is really starting to get going, and is only bound to continue to get better. Even though Nikita is “in danger” of being canceled, the CW cannot lose another show right now and I think that they see that Nikita has potential, they just need to find the right night/time for it to be one. They really need to take a hard look at what else is on when they are putting it on. Right now, Tuesday at 9 really seems to be the best time as its only REAL competition will be NCIS: LA. Or even Wednesday at 8pm (as it only has reality TV to contend with). Friday is just the wrong night. Nikita even beat out Kitchen Nightmares last week! (Again cause it’s Friday and no one 18-34 is home on a Friday! Except me of course)

So, Friday nights, 8pm on the CW. Watch it. Or else I’ll beat you up. (Hey I do have a black belt in karate so you know, I can do that and stuff. Maybe not as well as someone from Division but you catch my drift)
