Not Another MegaCon Review!!!!

Given that Mother Nature has revealed to have menopause this year and that winters in the Northeast were nothing sort of harsh, running down to Florida for MegaCon can be described as the ideal vacation. If you’re not costuming, you can finally see your toes in flipflops and if you are, you can forget for a day or two just how cold it gets when there’s nothing separating you from the fierce winds by a layer of spandex.
While Dragon*Con is the golden standard against which conventions are compared to by the hardcore costuming community, this one still granted plenty of opportunities to hang out with friends. While the convention closed at an early evening time on all three days, fans could still find entertainment by going out to dinner together, seeing Sucker Punch in cinema, or playing games of laser tag at Wonderworks. The convention centre’s fabulous location permitted attendees to find entertainment regardless of the hour. MOSHI MOSHI Productions, sponsored by the Wolfpack Elite, organized a circus-themed party in the club of the Rosen Plaza on Saturday night, the popularity being high to the point where entrance lines lasted well over an hour for members and the only complaint was the space being too small and crowded. . Clearly a sign of success.
A similar scenario was also seen with the attendee badges, where local book comic stores such as “Coliseum of Comics” were sold out of passes for both the weekend and all three days and buying a pass on Friday morning was a faint hope only a few could turn into reality. I would strongly advise fans to buy a pass if their con-going status is still a maybe and for conventions to make transfer policies similar as that of Dragon*Con as by this point it is becoming a necessity. Simply put, the convention scene is becoming increasingly popular, largely thanks to shows such as The Big Bang Theory which gave geeks a more positive image. This can be attested by the fact that there was also a cheerleading competition in the convention center that weekend and little girls with hair ribbons wanted their picture taken with heroes such as Batman. From an evolution of popular culture perspective, I would love to hear what previous generations would have to say on that!
Overall, this convention is strongly recommended whether you are there for the friends, the tights, the dealer’s room, or the celebrities. Provided that 2012 gives me the right cards, this is something I definitely plan on marking down on my calendar. February 17-19th shall hopefully see me braving the tights again!
