Nintendo Wii, time to cash in on your 401k.

The Nintendo Wii’s time is coming to an end. It will be just another system that children (and adults) once played like Sega and Dreamcast. Nintendo announced today that they would be doing away with the system. This explains why games have been slow to make it to the download center for the Wii for the last few months (I am still waiting for Dragon Warrior!)

Now before everyone sheds a tear, there is some good news! Nintendo ALSO announced that they would be releasing a new system in 2012 AND we would see a working version of it at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles in June AND! Bonus! This system is going to be HD.

Yes that is right folks. HD! You can play in 1080p. (Finally! Nothing stinks more than having a 46 inch LED/LCD TV that projects in 1080i/p and you can only play your games in 480p).

Can you imagine 8 bit Zelda in 1080p? Better yet, how about all the new heavy graphics games? Jackpot!

The one thing that I am not all too happy about (I mean, should I have anything to not be happy about? HD, 2012!) is that myself and I am sure millions of other Nintendo Wii enthusiasts (especially adults wanting to relive their childhood) have spent a lot of money on downloading their favorite games from the 80’s and 90’s. Unless they make the expansion card from the Wii compatible with the new system, and I don’t see that happening, we are going to have to fork over more money to redownload the same games. Nintendo seems to have a George Lucas mentality here. Can they really afford this? I think so actually.

Internet rumors are swirling that the new Nintendo system "Project Café/Stream" (code-name/rumor name) will be about the size of the original x-box system and might even possibly offer 3D. You want an even better rumor? The new system will be more powerful than the X-box and PS3. It will also reportedly come with updated motion controllers (with more accurate tracking), a controller with a large 6 inch touch screen with eight buttons and dual analog sticks (Say what?!), and games on blu-ray disks. (Hello instant blu-ray DVD player!)

The new system cost is estimated to be between $350-400 dollars.

Blu-ray player, I am assuming streaming Netflix, 1080p games, and 3D? Will this thing clean my house too?

The E3 Expo runs June 7-9th 2011.
