Put aside the Marvel and we have DC's big hit of the summer... Green Lantern. Or at least, we thought it would be a big hit but from what Facebook statuses of the geek community seem to reveal, “hit or miss” would be a more realistic entitlement.

To those who do not know the base story, Green Lantern is all about rings of power which harness energy from different colors of the light spectrum, green being will. A Corps of ring wielders exist and they serve as the guardians of the universe, which is cut up into a couple of thousand sectors. Think Star Wars meets Lord of the Rings, as one guy at my comic book store once put it when explaining it to me many months ago. Or at least that's what it translates to in the comics, the movie is more of a “let's save the damsel in distress” deal where CGI and fancy effects were given plenty of attention while the plot was seriously compromised. More After The Jump......

This was a pretty good movie. I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting from it going in, but after seeing it you could call it a mix of The Goonies The Explorers with a seriously pissed off alien thrown in for good measure. Because who does not like a really pissed off monster? I'm not going to spoil the whole movie for you, but I will say that you can easily tell that this is both a Spielberg and Abrams movie. Both directors have been around long enough to have their movie making system's down pat.

So I finally had a chance to see X-MEN FIRST CLASS, and I have to agree with a lot of people that this is the best of the X-MEN films. I won’t go as far as saying this is the best marvel film, but it is definitely up there.  Matthew Vaughn hit a home run with this one by making it a period piece and introducing film viewers to characters not as widely known as Cyclops, Storm and Wolverine.  Before I go into full detail with my review let me state one thing...Take what you might have learned and gathered from the previous four X-men films (I’m including the Wolverine film in this one) AND TOSS IT OUT THE WINDOW!!!!!! To me this film is a complete reboot of the franchise. So here is my review….

KUNG FU PANDA 2 REVIEW

When you're craving noodles like there's no tomorrow, but there's only popcorn in front of you, you definitely aren't in Chinatown but at the cinemas... watching Kung Fu Panda 2 with its all-star casting including high-profile voice talent from those such as Jack Black and Angelina Jolie. As the first movie was a smashing hit that left people singing “Kung Fu Fighting” by the Foo Fighters as they exited the theaters, the second follows suit bearing an all-too-obvious hint that at least one more film is to follow.

As big as Po the Panda is on heart and appetite, the movie is on humor and fun. The audience today could barely go but a handful of minutes without erupting in laughter, whether it be Po's witty comment about stopping for a snack en route to a journey or doing a move not even Jackie Chan would be able to master. He is joined by the rest of the Furious Five, the characters originally created by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris (who also happen to be friends of our EIC's family) appearing in the sequel without seeming forced. Master Shifu too falls under this category, serving as the catalyst for adventure in the film by urging Po to “find his inner peace”, a plot device essential not only to Po's development as a character but to the overall plot of the film and the mandatory defeat of the villain.
